Linda Darling-Hammond in Leadership Mindsets (Kaser & Halbert) states, "Schools that redesign their work around student learning spend a great deal of time thinking through what they value, how they will know if they have achieved it and what they must do to create connected learning experiences that enable students to achieve their goals."
Do we see this in our schools?
What do leaders do if they do not see this?
Interesting that you posted this comment, Steve as I am going through this at my school right now. I am trying to promote a shift in assessment for learning practice at my school. However, not everyone is on board wit this. Even though it is something that I value, it is not a staff value as yet. I as leader am going to model the practice. I hope that if staff can see the success of AFL strategies that they will feel inspired to try it themselves.
ReplyDeleteApril,
ReplyDeleteyou have to start with yourself. It is the shift in mindset from a teaching to learning focus that many need to see & value. You will set a great example.

ReplyDeleteI agree, the biggest shift in education is that teachers are there to ensure students are learning. The belief that the teacher's job is to teach and the students job is to learn needs to change. The teacher has to work towards learning for all students. I believe the focus is slowly changing. I also agree that as instructional leaders we must model this shift and be the example. It is also essential to coach and collaborate with other teachers in order change this mindset.
